Inside The Village

What's new at Crossroads Village Apartments?

Thanks to everyone for your patience while we give our hallways a new face. If the hallways in your building have not already gotten a new cost of paint, be patient...it will happen! Please help keep them nice and clean.

As noted last month, all vehicles must now be registered with the office. If you have not yet returned your Crossroads Village Vehicle Registration form to the office, please do so asap. Those who did return the form, but did not pick up a vehicle sticker, please do that asap. The sticker should be placed on the lower left side of the rear glass, and must be displayed to prevent your vehicle being towed. Don't forget to fill out the Occupant List on the reverse side of the form. We have extended the deadline to 4/15/06. If you have misplaced your form, you can download the Vehicle Registration Form and the Occupant List below. If you have no vehicle, just note that on the form. Please contact the office with any questions.

The exterminator will apply Gel Bait in Buildings 301, 304, and 306 on April 10th. There is no need to remove pets since Gel Bait is practically non-toxic to humans and pets. A 35 pound dog would have to consume the contents of 14 syringes of Gel Bait to receive a lethal dose. Anyone currently having a problem in any other building can contact the office to be added to the list. If you want your unit sprayed in addition to the gel, please let us know, remove items from your cabinets before April 10th, and remove pets from your unit on the 10th.

Last month we noted that, for your security, we must require a PICTURE ID when requesting access to your apartment. Here are the links again that were listed last month, where you can have an id made for your child.

In addition to the above options, Brenda can make one for you, but you will need to have it laminated yourself. Or, you may leave it on file in the office so that it is always available when needed. This might be best for little ones. See an example below.

Just A Reminder...

When is rent due?

Rent is due on the 1st of each month, and late charges begin on the 4th day of each month, at which time a Late Notice is issued, and late charges will continue to be added daily until the full balance is paid.

If rent has not been paid by the 10th of the month, and arrangements to pay have not been made, a 3-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit will be issued.

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore a 3-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit! Unless paid, or acceptable arrangements to pay are made within these 3 days, this will result in all daily late charges at the full rate stated in your lease being charged, along with attorney fees, court filing fees, and writ fees. This can add up to a significant amount in addition to the amount of rent owed.

Pay Rent By The 10th To Qualify!

This month's winner will receive the first botanical disinfectant approved by the EPA for use in hospitals and medical facilities, as well as for hard surfaces in your home.

One of the most common misconceptions in the home is that if it looks clean, it must be germ free. While typical cleaners eliminate surface stains, grease, and food residue, they can also spread bacteria all over the surface, creating an even larger contaminated area. On average, 60% of household surfaces are infected with germs. The typical kitchen counter has 62,000 germs per square inch, and the kitchen faucet is swarming with a staggering 250,000 germs per inch! What’s more shocking is that while typical surface cleaners are effective at removing dirt and soils, they don’t kill the germs.

Sol-U-Guard Botanical is the first botanical formula EPA-registered and proven to be 99.99% effective against the toughest kitchen germs, including Salmonella choleraesuis, Staphylococcus aureus (Staph), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB), HIV-1 (the AIDS virus), and Athlete’s foot fungus.

Humans are not the only living things subject to attack from bacteria. In nature, plants are also susceptible to invading microbes, and, over time, a number of plants have developed weapons to defend themselves. One such plant is thyme. A common and popular seasoning, thyme produces an essential oil that functions as the herb’s immune system, protecting it from microscopic invaders. Sol-U-Guard Botanical harnesses the power of this oil, creating a disinfectant that uses this natural germ buster to eliminate bacteria on counters, sinks, and other surfaces—all with the fresh, herbal scent of thyme.

Congratulations to Cheryl G., Maurine N., and Lillian W., who each won a travel size Renew Intensive Skin Therapy therapeutic moisturizer last month!

Helpful Household Hints

Are you Poisoning Yourself and Your Children?

Did you know that there are 150 chemicals commonly found in homes that are linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological abnormalities?

Cancer is the #1 cause of death in children and #2 in adults. Diseases commonly related to chemical exposure include Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Arthritis, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Circulatory Disorders, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Depression, and Hormonal Problems.

Fact: There are 62 toxic chemicals are in the average home.
Fact: Toxic chemicals in household cleaners are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air.
Fact: Over 3 million poisonings are reported every year and household cleaners are the NUMBER ONE cause of poisoning of children.
Fact: Bleach is linked to the rising rates of breast cancer in women, reproductive problems in men and learning and behavioral problems in children.
Fact: Since 1980, asthma has increased by 600%. The Canadian Lung Association and the Asthma Society of Canada has identified common household cleaners and cosmetics as triggers.
Fact: Formaldehyde, phenol, benzene, toluene, xylene are found in common household cleaners and cosmetics. These chemicals are cancer causing and toxic to the immune system.

Did you know that common household cleaners “outgass” even when tightly closed? What this means is that harmful chemicals in household cleaners release toxic vapors when they are used and even when they are stored. The next time you are in the grocery store, notice how strong the odors are in the household cleaning aisle. This is an example of outgassing. It doesn’t have to be that way! Consider making your own cleaners with safe ingredients, or ask Brenda for suggestions about safe alternatives.
