Inside The Village

What's new at Crossroads Village Apartments?

Hallways - The painters are almost done with painting the hallways. Please do your part to help keep the hallways clean. Please ask children not to throw wrappers, paper, food, etc. on the floor, and pick up after them if they do. Smoking is NOT ALLOWED in the hallways. You will be fined $15 per person per occurance. Please be considerate of others who must walk through the hallways.

PARKING STICKERS - FINAL NOTICE If you have not yet picked up your parking sticker, do so asap. We will begin towing soon!

STORAGE ROOMS - If you have any items in the walkways of the storage room, please remove those before May 15. Also, if your storage area is unsecured, place a lock on it immediately. All items not locked up will be removed and disposed of beginning May 16, 2006. If there is no hasp for a lock on your storage door, please notify the office immediately. We also suggest that you put a pallet under your storage items, place plastic over larger items, and store smaller items tightly sealed in a rubber storage box for protection in the event there is a water leak.

ANIMALS - Dogs MUST be on a leash when outside...no exception! Warm weather means more small children playing outside, and they could be hurt if a loose dog wants to play. Please keep a firm grip on your dog's leash at all times. It's the law!

UNATTENDED ITEMS - Items left unattended on the sidewalks and in grassy areas will be confiscated and held for one month, and then released if claimed. If unclaimed during that time, they will be disposed of. Please caution children to make use of the bike racks provided.

PEST CONTROL - The exterminator will apply Gel Bait in Buildings 305, 307, and 309 on Monday, May 8th. There is no need to remove pets since Gel Bait is practically non-toxic to humans and pets. A 35 pound dog would have to consume the contents of 14 syringes of Gel Bait to receive a lethal dose. Anyone currently having a problem in any other building can contact the office to be added to the list. If you want your unit sprayed in addition to the gel, please let us know, remove items from your cabinets before May 8th, and remove pets from your unit on the 8th.

Just A Reminder...

When is rent due?

Rent is due on the 1st of each month, and late charges begin on the 4th day of each month, at which time a Late Notice is issued, and late charges will continue to be added daily until the full balance is paid.

If rent has not been paid by the 10th of the month, and arrangements to pay have not been made, a 3-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit will be issued.

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore a 3-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit! Unless paid, or acceptable arrangements to pay are made within these 3 days, this will result in all daily late charges at the full rate stated in your lease being charged, along with attorney fees, court filing fees, and writ fees. This can add up to a significant amount in addition to the amount of rent owed.

Pay Rent By The 10th To Qualify!

This month's winner will receive a 10.5 oz. size of Melaleuca Mint Antibacterial Liquid Soap.

With health-care professionals stating that 80% of common infections are spread through our hands, one thing we can we do to protect our family and ourselves is to use a safe antibacterial liquid soap. Some hand soaps contain an actual antibiotic - triclosan - as the active ingredient. Other products contain harsh chemicals such as alcohol or quaternary ammonium compounds that kill bacteria but don't necessarily kill "super germs". This extremely concentrated formula containing bacteria-fighting triclosan effectively and safely attacks common bacteria like staph, strep, E. coli, and salmonella, and kills germs fast. And because it is so concentrated, it goes a long way.

Other ingredients like melaleuca oil and special moisturizers help keep hands soft and smooth wash-after-wash. Unlike most brands, this germ-fighting soap is extra gentle to your skin.

If interested in any of the products featured in our monthly drawings, contact Brenda for details on where to get them.

Congratulations to Lisea D., who won the Sol-U-Guard Botanical Disinfectant in our drawing last month!

Helpful Household Hints

Dangers Of Not Washing Your Hands

Despite the proven health benefits of hand washing, many people don't practice this habit as often as they should — even after using the bathroom. Throughout the day you accumulate germs on your hands from a variety of sources, such as direct contact with people, contaminated surfaces, foods, even animals and animal waste. If you don't wash your hands frequently enough, you can infect yourself with these germs by touching your eyes, nose or mouth. And you can spread these germs to others by touching them or by touching surfaces that they also touch, such as doorknobs.

Infectious diseases commonly spread through hand-to-hand contact include the common cold, flu and several gastrointestinal disorders, such as infectious diarrhea. While most people will get over a cold, the flu is much more serious. Some people with the flu, particularly older adults and people with chronic medical problems, can develop pneumonia. The combination of the flu and pneumonia, in fact, is the seventh leading cause of death among Americans.

Inadequate hand hygiene also contributes to food-related illnesses, such as salmonella and E. coli infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 76 million Americans contract a food-borne illness each year. Of these, about 5,000 die as a result of their illness. Others experience the annoying symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Kids Need Clean Hands, Too!

You can help your children avoid getting sick by insisting that they wash their hands properly and frequently. To get kids into the habit, teach by example. Wash your hands with your children and supervise their hand washing. Place hand-washing reminders at children's eye level, such as a chart by the bathroom sink for children to mark every time they wash their hands. Tell your children to wash their hands for as long as it takes them to sing their ABCs, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" or the "Happy Birthday" song. This works especially well with younger children, who may rush when washing their hands.

Get your rent paid by the 10th of this month for a chance at winning an excellent hand washing liquid that is effective at safely killing germs fast while keeping hands soft and smooth.

Getting back to nature...

1000 A.D. - That root is heathen. Here, say this prayer.
1850 A.D. - That prayer is superstition. Here, drink this potion.

1985 A.D. - That pill is ineffective. Here, take this antibiotic.
2000 A.D. - That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root.

Challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. It's just a matter of how you view them.
